Keystone Human Services and Mainstay Life Services Plan to Affiliate
(Harrisburg, PA) June 24, 2025 – Keystone Human Services, a multi-national human services organization headquartered in Harrisburg, and Western PA-based Mainstay Life Services, have announced their intention to explore affiliation. The two mission-driven nonprofit organizations provide essential services and support for people living with intellectual disabilities and autism.
This collaborative effort represents a shared commitment to enhancing the quality and reach of services provided to the communities they serve, while exploring opportunities to build a stronger and more sustainable organization for the future. When they affiliate in early Fall 2025, Keystone Human Services with Mainstay Life Services will become one of the largest providers of human services in Pennsylvania.
“This is an important step for both organizations to amplify our impact,” said Kim Sonafelt, CEO of Mainstay. “As we iron out the details of affiliation, we are equally focused on aligning our missions, cultures, and resources to expand services and opportunities for the people we support and our team members.”
Charles S. Sweeder, President and CEO of Keystone Human Services, added, “By working together, we hope to identify ways to strengthen our shared commitment to innovation, sustainability, and community-focused supports. This process reflects our belief that we can achieve more together than apart.”
Under the agreement, Mainstay will continue to focus its operations in Western Pennsylvania. Together the two mission-driven organizations will emphasize innovation in quality support and programming, expand the application of technology, and invest in the future of their team members.
A formal announcement is expected in early Fall 2025. KHS and Mainstay are committed to a transparent process through exploration and integration that prioritizes the needs of the people they support and the communities they serve.
KHS and Mainstay are working with Consulting for Human Services (CFHS), a strategic advisory firm specializing in nonprofit mergers and acquisitions, to guide this process.
