Rapid Assessment India

Globally, an estimated 240 million children, or one in every 10 children have a disability. They face disproportionate and often compounding challenges in accessing basic services such as nutrition and health, to access to water and sanitation, protection from violence and exploitation, and education. They often become invisible in our child protection services, falling through the cracks, living in institutions with no tangible exit pathways back into the community. Today, with a growing movement towards deinstitutionalization and care reform, it is important to put children with disabilities at the center of these conversations. It is in keeping with that belief that Children and Families Together – India consortium, with Keystone Human Services International as the prime, undertook an assessment of the situation of care and protection of children with disabilities in India. The report shines a light on key challenges and opportunities for inclusive care reform
